Restaurant Round Up – August Eats

Another month goes by and I have to loosen my belt another notch……I’m ready for fall and routine and lemon water and kale!  But first, here’s a look at what I ate in the month of August.
A massive tomahawk steak dinner at Strip House.  Overall our meal was good but not worth the price.
The classic CT lobster roll from Abbott’s fueled a 5 hour drive home from Rhode Island.
Finally tried the famous salted chocolate chip cookie at Untitled at the Whitney.  Served with a perfect portion of milk, this was a great restaurant week menu!
I returned to ABCV for a takeaway wild blueberry bowl, it was delicious!
No trip to Nantucket is complete without a visit to the Juice Bar for a fresh waffle cone/bowl and homemade ice cream!
While in Chicago, I sampled my first “Chicago Dog” at the hot dog festival!

Also in Chicago, we tried the deep dish pizza at Pequod’s.
My favorite foodie and I ventured to Brooklyn Grange for a rooftop summer feast!  The highlight for me was this carrot cheesecake with a delicious ginger crust from the folks behind Butter and Scotch bakery.

I had a delicious breakfast date at Dimes including the “magic toast” and the Huevo Kathmandu, quite possibly my favorite egg dish ever!

Made it to Olmsted in Brooklyn, truly one of the best meals I’ve had in 2017, the hype is real!

Perfect froyo with whipped honey enjoyed in their lovely garden.
Words can’t describe the croissants from Arsicault Bakery in SF, no wonder Bon Appetit named them best new bakery in the country!  Get there right when they open on weekends (or a few minutes before) and you won’t wait more than 10 minutes in line.

Fresh sourdough toast with homemade almond butter and jam from The Mill in SF.
Also while in SF, I tried the froyo from Souvla with Greek olive oil and flakey sea salt, a little too savory for my taste but the yogurt was good, I just prefer olive oil on my tomatoes, not my dessert!

Back home in St. Helena I stopped by the newest hot spot from chef Chris Kostow, The Charter Oak.  I was underwhelmed, dishes for brunch were tasty but not life changing and they were seriously lacking egg options for brunch.  I had the smoked trout and it was a lot of trout for one dish with not much else, that bread was delicious though grilled over the open fire in the center of the dining room.
