European Holiday Part 2 - Beaune, France - Chardonnay Moi

Our trip continued with a flight to Lyon and easy train ride up to Beaune in the heart of Burgundy. We checked into our adorable B&B and then walked into town. It was a breath of fresh air after the busy, crowded streets of Rome. The entire town of Beaune can be covered in 10 minutes flat, a perfect respite in the middle of our trip.

We toured the Hospices de Beaune, a wonderful tour that we really enjoyed (maybe even more than our Vatican tours?!?!). Originally founded as a hospital for the poor, the buildings were wonderfully kept and museum entry includes a guided audio tour that was both fun and informative!

After checking off the one cultural must-see in Beaune, we made our way to a local wine bar for our first glass of white Burgundy, in Burgundy! Seriously, my happy place! After cocktail hour we made our way to Caves Madeleine, one of my favorite dining experiences of the trip (for both food and atmosphere) which I already wrote about for Wine Wednesday.

We spent the next two days cooking, wine tasting (more posts to come on those adventures) and eating. We had dinner one night at La Ciboulette, and our last night at Le Comptoir des Tontons.

I was on a big charcuterie kick during our trip….and may have sampled it at almost every meal!

Amazing bread pudding of sorts with prosciutto at Tonton. We took our bottle to go down the street to finish at Caves Madeleine.

The town of Beaune is so adorable with wine stores and fun shops every where you look! We spent an afternoon walking around and shopping and found some fun souvenirs to bring home (Laguiole cheese knives, truffle mustard!)

I fell in love with another cheese shop. Who can resist bacon wrapped cheese?!?! Such a great idea, wrap a strip of bacon around a slice of goat cheese and pan fry until the bacon crisps up!

My favorite cheese of the trip might have been this regional Gabarre….so tasty!

Endless choices……

Breakfast each morning was such a treat, homemade yogurt and granola with stewed fruits, fresh croissants and baguette with homemade jam and salty butter, and fresh squeezed orange juice!
