As mentioned in “Wine Wednesdays” I recently visited the North fork of Long Island for a long weekend with my mom. After several summers on the South fork I wanted to explore the area a bit more. We stayed in the town of Greenport at a wonderful b&b, The Fordham House. I can’t say enough wonderful things about the owner, Halina, who did everything she could to make our stay as comfortable as possible (and she makes an amazing breakfast!)
After touring Shinn Estate and Lieb Cellars we made our way to the North Fork Table and Inn for lunch. After eating at the lunch truck last year, I have been wanting to come back and experience the main dining room. We had an amazing lunch, sharing lobster salad and local long island duck breast. After lunch we explored a few antique stores in Southold before making our way to Greenport.
We dropped our stuff off and made the 10 minute walk into town to explore. We found more great antique shops and a few fun boutiques. We made our way to Claudio’s on the pier for cocktail hour and had a great time sitting out on the dock watching massive yachts maneuver in and out of the port!
Saturday’s dinner was at The Frisky Oyster, a fun happening bar scene with great food. After sampling several flavors of ices at Ralph’s I decided on peanut butter cookie dough and we made the walk back to the hotel and tucked ourselves into bed.

The next day we walked to 67 steps beach, then took a drive out to Orient Point, the furthest point on long island. After visiting a former slave cemetery we made our way back to Greenport for lunch on the harbor. We took the ferry to Shelter Island and drove around for the afternoon.

We spent cocktail hour back on the porch of the Fordham house with a lovely selection of local wine and cheese. Dinner this time was at Noah’s, where I had a great selection of local oysters and maybe the best lobster roll I’ve ever had (tough call).
The next morning we woke up for a leisurely walk around the town and then one last breakfast before packing up and heading back to the city. I highly recommend Greenport and the North Fork if you’ve done the Hamptons thing and are looking to explore something new. Hurry before everyone else figures it out 😉
