Wine Wednesdays – Fleuron Cuvee ‘Wichcraft

I’ll take this Wednesday to pause on the Europe travel review to let you know about a wonderful wine I tasted the other night at NY Vintners here in NY, but I hope you’re not bored of trip reviews as I still have more to share!

I attended the “Bad Ass Whites” class which was so fun and interesting.  I’ve written about my experience at NY Vintners before, and oddly enough my favorite wine from that night was by Fleuron as well!  This was my first time taking one of their smaller, week night classes.  It was perfectly relaxed and casual yet informative.  While I may have known slightly more than the average person, I learned a couple of new things and tasted some great new wines, win-win for a drizzly Monday night!  I would highly recommend checking out their list of classes, they have such a wide variety to appeal to all taste levels and interests!

We started the class with some bubbles – which makes any Monday better
The basics of wine-tasting
I was the odd-man out in class, voting this Chardonnay as my favorite.  Chardonnay continues to be one of those “love it or hate it” experiences for many, but born and bred on Chardonnay how could I ever turn my back on it??

This wine was bold and complex, but not overpowering in any way.  Our instructor urged us to try it with food, as a bite of cheese or an olive before a sip completely changed the taste and the approachability of the wine.  The nose was fresh and floral, with notes of fresh peaches, a kiss of oak and vanilla bean.  The taste was balanced acid+fruit, upon first sip I got all butter.  But when paired with food the touch of oak began to shine through and provided a lasting finish.
Can’t wait to try more classes at NY Vintners!
