Happy Wednesday! We’re covered in snow in NYC, is it spring yet??
This week we’re reviewing Flowers 2011 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. I know there’s a facet of wine-drinkers out there known for believing in the mantra “ABC” (anything but Chardonnay) but as you’ve probably heard me mention, chardonnay is my mom’s favorite varietal, was once a consideration for my first name (no joke) and is obviously the name-sake of this here blog. So needless to say, I’m a chardonnay fan. And sometimes I wish people would give chardonnay more of a chance before immediately writing it off.
Case in point, this Flowers Chardonnay. I first had it while dining out at Bobo back in November and was immediately a fan. Laura, my dining companion, knew the label for both their chardonnay and pinot.
I love this label for it’s simplicity and bottle shape, the wine itself is a beautiful golden color. The nose is full of bright citrus and a hint of vanilla, balanced with a mid-palette of crisp apple. Considering this wine was aged in 100% French oak, it was not overly oaky.
I would highly recommend this wine for a special occasion, we paired ours on my last night at home with yummy leftover cheese and charcuterie which may not be so special but was perfect none-the-less.
